4 year old Teacher
Professionally, I commenced kindergarten teaching in 1990 after studying a Diploma of Teaching and later a Graduate Diploma in Special Education. I was the Director of Wattlewee Pre-school for 8 years teaching 4 year old kindergarten groups. I left this role to have my first child and when my second child was 12 months old I returned to a teaching role at Canterbury & District Pre-School in Surrey Hills where I worked for 11 years with both the 3 and 4 year old children.
Personally, I am a St Kilda supporter (yes, feel sorry for me) and at home along with 2 children we have a rabbit, bird and dog.
I am looking forward to meeting all of the families and enjoy sharing in your child’s learning journey. Feel free to come and talk to me anytime about your child, the program or learning outcomes. I am always happy to spend time with you. I am certain you will have many questions about the program and your child’s development. I would love to talk to you at the start or end of a session or at another scheduled time.
4 year old Co-educator
Hi, My name is Laurel Watson and I am the 4 year old co-educator. I completed my Certificate 3 in Children’s services in 2007 and have worked in various Kindergartens and Childcare Services since. My most recent positions were at Sherborune Preschool as an Additional Assistant for a child with special needs and at St Helena Preschool as both an Additional Assistant (2 days per week) and the 4 year old Co-educator (1 day per week)
I am married and have two teenage daughters that keep me very busy. I love to read a good book and also love photography (although don’t seem to find the time for it anymore!) I live on a 20 acre property in Hurstbridge so the natural environment and what children can learn from it is also very important to me.
I look forward to spending time with all your children at Doncaster Park Kindergarten and have a fun-filled and rewarding year with them.
3 year old Teacher
I have four children, all now grown and left home, and five grandchildren. I now live with my husband in our ‘empty nest’ but our children and grandchildren are constant visitors and a source of great joy. We have a very productive garden, half of which is a ‘garden for wildlife’ (and terrific playground for young children), the other half producing large amounts of fruit and vegetables (with the help of the grandchildren). Gardening is one of my passions, and conservation of the natural environment is a part of my commitment to sustainability. Another great interest I share with my husband is scuba diving, and we travel around the world diving reefs and wrecks, each of us trying to outdo the other with the best underwater photo! Conservations of the marine environment is of great importance to us. I also enjoy bushwalking, reading, music and yoga.
I have had several careers since leaving school and I started working in the early childhood field when my youngest child was three. I have over twenty five years’ experience as an early childhood educator, working in long day care whilst studying, then working in Kindergartens and integrated services. During the last five years I have also been teaching Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, many of my students going on to achieve their Bachelor of Early Childhood.
From research into brain development in the later 1990’s (the decade of the brain) we now know the first five years matter and last a lifetime. By the time a child is three years old, 90% of their brain has been developed and is absorbing everything – the quality of relationships and learning environments for young children is critically important and quality learning experiences will provide a strong platform on which all future learning is built.
I look forward to being a part of you and your child’s Kindergarten year.
3 year old co-educator
I am excited to be starting in 2015 at Doncaster Park Kindergarten as the 3 year old Co-Educator.
In 2003 I started as a casual assistant at 3 different Kindergartens in the Doncaster Area. I then worked for 11 years in 2 Child Care Centres in the Templestowe and Warrandyte Area. I have worked with a range of children with differing needs and from babies to school aged children. A lot of my time was with the 3 to 5 years olds. Throughout these years I completed Certificate 3 and Diploma levels in Children’s Services.
I have a son studying at RMIT and a daughter studying at ACU. My husband is a fleet manager. I was raised in Doncaster and live in Templestowe.
I am looking forward to working with Carol the Childhood Educator and with meeting a new range of families and their children and to learn each child’s individual interests and strengths and then to extend these as well as providing new experiences for them. As well as ensuring they all feel a sense of belonging to the group, safe and secure and to learn social skills which will equip them for life’s challenges ahead.
